Peggy Pitchard Olsen
Today the city of Edmonds honored their Citizen of the Year,Peggy Pitchard Olsen the event was held at the Edmonds Yacht Club. Even before her election to Edmonds City Council in 2003, Peggy served the community in countless ways through the Soroptimists and Friends Of The Edmonds Library and numerous other affiliations. City Council was simply a continuation. And when she ran for a second term, she was unassailable. She ran unopposed – the ultimate affirmation for any candidate. That election took place in November 2007. A few months later, Peggy underwent a routine medical check. It was on her 58th birthday. The diagnosis was stunning. She had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), known to all as Lou Gehrigs disease.
Family and friends were stricken. Tears were in plentiful supply. But Peggy Pritchard Olson went about setting her priorities. First off, she scheduled a press conference in the mayor’s office. She wanted to clarify something. “When my speech begins to slur,” she told those present, “I don’t want you thinking I’m hitting the bottle.” With a chuckle. Rueful smiles all-roundWould she resign from council? No chance of that, she said – “not while I can still manage to talk.” More rueful smiles. One thing she didn’t say was this: “Why me?” Instead she said, “It could be worse. I could have been hit by a bus. Some of you may or my not know that Peggy was the daughter of Joel Pritchard, who served in the Washington State Legislature (1959-67) and as Washington’s 1st District representative in Congress (1973-85) and finally as Washington’s Lieutenant Governor (1989-97). All of Edmonds wants to congratulate and wish you the best Peggy they don’t make’m like you any more.

Last week I had an opportunity to see a mold sniffing dog do her thing.Jill Gallagher of Ameican K-9 Detection Service preformed a demonstration last Thursday in a Edmonds realtor’s home. Valerie Claypool an agent with Greater Seattle Keller Williams Realty offered her home for use of the demonstration which was filmed by King 5 and Komo TV. I met and observed Anna a beautiful German Shepherd sniff out mold that was hidden in Valerie’s residence it was truly amazing. As most of you know the Pacific NW has had several homes on the market to have mold problems detected in home inspections. The problem after its been detected is the exact location you can spend thousands of dollars tearing up a house trying to find mold or no mold at all. A dogs nose doesn’t lie check out the link to the King 5 video. Jill Gallagher’s email is jgallagher@mak9.com/www.amk9.com Office (407)333-8846/ Cell (512)745-7879

Short Order Mom
This is a story about a stay at mom who started to blog about her families recipes in her spare time. She caught the attention of other stay at home mom’s and then “Disney”, yes Disney. They ask if she would write for them on their new Disney Family.com Web site. Bethlehem, Pa., mom of seven has made a name for herself in cyberspace, posting low-cost recipes for moms on the go.
Now blogging as Disney’s “Short Order Mom” and dispensing mom-centric culinary tips, Coleman has beaten the odds to become one of the elite group of bloggers who has been picked up by a nationally known sponsor. Coleman says she didn’t really believe it until she received her first paycheck with Mickey Mouse in the corner.
Coleman’s blog features quick, budget-friendly recipes she has created for the on-the-run mother. Recipes range from funky selections inspired by the Harry Potter book series to a healthy version of turkey sliders, a favorite in the Coleman household.

The number of pending home sales in western and central Washington increased by about a third in January, compared to December. The Northwest Multiple Listing Service says the 4,400 pending sales last month were still down about 3 percent from January a year ago in 19 counties. The director of the broker-owned service, Meribeth Hutchings, says banks are getting more realistic on pricing bank-owned homes and buyers seem to be feeling more confident.
