Fed cuts key rate by half-percentage point

Posted by tracy cobbin No Comments »

The Federal Reserve has slashed a key interest rate by half a percentage point as it seeks to revive an economy hit by a long list of maladies stemming from the most severe financial crisis in decades.

The central bank on Wednesday reduced its target for the federal funds rate, the interest banks charge on overnight loans, to 1 percent, a low last seen in 2003-2004. The funds rate has not been lower since 1958, when Dwight Eisenhower was president.

Seattle real estate rated No. 1

Posted by tracy cobbin 1 Comment »

Among major metropolitan areas, Seattle’s real estate is the best in the nation as a prospective investment, a national report released Tuesday says.

On an eight-point scale reflecting investment value, Seattle was ranked 6.2, according to the 30th annual study of emerging trends in real estate from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Urban Land Institute.

That ranking reflects averaged ratings by more than 600 surveyed real estate professionals, who assigned a number of 0 to 8 to each the nation’s top 10 regions. The better the location for investment purposes, the higher the rating.

“It’s saying a dollar invested in Seattle real estate would be more likely to yield more than a dollar invested anywhere else — but it says nothing about how much the yield would be, or over what time period,” said Rick Kalvoda, a PricewaterhouseCoopers director.

Forrest Gump Explains Mortgage Backed Securities

Posted by tracy cobbin No Comments »

Mortgage Backed Securities are like boxes of chocolates. Criminals on Wall Street stole a few chocolates from the boxes and replaced them with turds. Their criminal buddies at Standard &Poor rated these boxes AAA Investment Grade chocolates. These boxes were then sold all over the world to investors. Eventually somebody bites into a turd and discovers the crime. Suddenly nobody trusts American chocolates anymore worldwide.

Hank Paulson now wants the American taxpayers to buy up and hold all these boxes of turd-infested chocolates for $700 billion dollars until the market for turds returns to normal. Meanwhile, Hank’s buddies, the Wall Street criminals who stole all the good chocolates are not being investigated, arrested, or indicted.Mama always said: ‘Sniff the chocolates first Forrest’
